Fishbowl Client Overview
The Fishbowl Client is the primary desktop application used by operations teams to connect to the Fishbowl Server and perform inventory, order, and manufacturing workflows.
Typical Client Responsibilities
- Connect to the Fishbowl Server using configured host/port settings
- Authenticate with user credentials and role-based permissions
- Execute daily inventory and order operations
- Run user-facing reports and exports
- Coordinate with server admins during upgrades and maintenance windows
Client/Server Relationship
The client does not store authoritative business data. It connects to the server and database managed by Fishbowl Server Administration.
- Client-side issues can be caused by server status, port settings, or certificate changes
- Server maintenance tasks (backup/restore/rebuild) should be communicated before users begin daily operations
Operational Notes
- Validate connection details after any server port or secure connection changes
- Confirm that integrations relying on database access are updated when read-only credentials are changed on the server
- During server maintenance, communicate expected downtime to client users before stopping the Fishbowl service
